For instance, on some of our wilderness hikes, we would come to stumble upon a herd of deer or flock of wild turkeys. To this day, those images are vividly imprinted in my mind. Not to mention watching a bald eagle dive to snatch an unsuspecting rodent literally in front of your eyes!
But one of the best adventures in exploring nature is coming across mountain streams. What a joy to plunge into cool waters on a warm day, hearing and seeing the roar of waterfalls, or the soft babbling sounds of a small stream.
At the end of the day, those campfires topped off the adventures during the day. Those s’mores were heavenly treats. Plus, I believe anything cooked on fire, no matter what, seemed to taste better than anything out of the oven at home.
When we get together at family gatherings, inevitably the conversations will include reminiscing about our outdoor adventures. As kids, we always wondered why we had extra things that, for the most part did not use but we had to share the load caring for it throughout our hiking adventures. Without a doubt, our parents were ready to handle any unseen event that might come along.
