When it comes to buying or renting Kayaks, I wanted to share my experience with them. I was introduced to kayak fishing by my brother-in-law, Mike, last winter. He let me use his wife’s kayak, which was 10 feet in length. I was a bit hesitant since I’m 6′ 2″ and weigh 220 lbs. On top of that, our guide on this coal plant lake in Texas was my other brother-in-law, Steve. He had us paddling almost half an hour to reach “the honey holes” that he claimed would get us catches for the day. Surprisingly, it was very enjoyable to paddle out to the hot fishing spots, taking in the beauty of nature along the way.

My Personal Experience with Kayaks
Needless to say, I managed to flip over in the kayak! Thank goodness, the lake water was 65 degrees while the outside temperature was 43 degrees. Both brot
For sure, I didn’t want to ruin our planned fishing outing. Besides, I purchased a Bass manual before this trip and I wanted to try out the techniques in this manual. As a result, I was able to land 5 Bass all above the minimum size requirements. By then, it was time to paddle back to our launch point. Much to my chagrin, I flipped the kayak over again!
You would think that with the experience above, I would have avoided kayaking altogether. However, I decided I would give it another try. But this time I did a bit of research on kayaks. I was determined to find a used kayak, but it had to have certain key features before I would venture out again.
Kayaks Features to Consider

Foremost, a kayak needs to be as stable as possible, especially for a person of my size. There are several kayaks that meet that bill, but the one that I settled on was Nucanoe. If you go online, you will see a YouTube demo on how hard it is to roll this brand of kayak. I can attest to that feature, plus I can stand up easily in this kayak.
Next is the deck, which provides easy access and enough storage for your fishing needs. For me, that means having room for kayak rod holders, mounting tracks, and transducer-ready capability.
What I consider probably the most important feature and that is the seat. In that 10 foot kayak that I was in, the seat had a thinly padded seat. Definitely after a couple of hours, it was very uncomfortable. Additionally, the backrest straps needed frequent adjustment. This was a concern because that 10-foot kayak was very unstable with any side to side movement. You guessed it, adjust the straps created that side motion. The solution is quality web seats that are very comfortable and having you sit higher on the kayak. More importantly, it helps in getting up to stand in the boat.
Kayaks Transportability
What I like about my Nucanoe is that it is light enough to be able to carry it without needing a cart. I enjoy this feature since I do go into places where it is an advantage to carry the kayak to difficult-to-reach pockets of water, having to traverse tough terrain.

There were times that I wished I could have taken my kayak on trips (especially if it involved flying). You guessed it, there is a solution for that also. I discovered a durable and stable fishing Kayak. These kayaks are specially designed for ultimate stability, maneuverability, and ride. It is longer and wider than anything you will find on the market. This makes it ideal for use on the sea, lakes, and rivers for the casual explorer to the avid fisherman.
