Convoy of Hope Truck Arrival and Set Up

Community Service Volunteering

I volunteered in two community service events that were totally amazing (2015; Metro East-O’Fallon, IL & 2017; East St Louis, IL). In particular, both events focused on helping others in need. Moreover, I still have vivid pictures in my mind of people helping people with genuine compassion and joy!

Convoy of Hope out of Springfield, Missouri co-hosted these two events. This faith-based nonprofit organization’s driving passion is to feed the world. With this in mind, they work with area churches, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to help those needing assistance. Through this partnership, Convoy of Hope distributed food, supplies, and valuable services to people in need in Metro East (2015) and East St Louis (2017).

Convoy of Hope’s Community Service: “Day of Hope”

Community Service
Free Family Portraits

This community event, “Day of Hope”, provided support to families, single moms, the underprivileged, unemployed, underemployed, and the homeless (our honored guest)within the region. Behind the scenes, both events required months of planning, advertising, fundraising, and recruiting volunteers to put on these events. For example, the East St Louis event involved 1300 volunteers from 103 area churches, 42 local businesses, and 10 non-profit agencies.

Over 3,000 honored guests were at each event. These guests enjoyed free services, fun, groceries, hot meal, compassion, and HOPE for a brighter future. In fact, over 3,300 honored guests came despite a blistering July day at 111 degrees (East St Louis)!

More importantly, people interacted face to face.  For at least a day, caring e volunteers listen to and share experiences, frustrations, dreams, hopes, laughter, and more with our honored guests. In my case, I will never forget participating in these two amazing community events during my lifetime!

The Convoy of Hope’s Story: Committed Community Service

The Donaldson Family founded this faith-based organization in 1994.  The family was grateful to those helping them through difficult times with the tragic loss of their father in 1969. As a result, the Donaldson Family established the Convoy of Hope. Since then, Convoy of Hope has served more than 115 million people throughout the world.

As you can see, Convoy of Hope is dedicated to providing help and hope to the impoverished, hungry, and hurting. Above all, strong partnerships are needed to successfully accomplish this worthy goal. Thus, Convoy of Hope works with area churches, businesses, non-profit agencies, and volunteers to sponsor events helping those in need.

Globally, Convoy of Hope feeds more than 200,000 children in 14 nations with nutritious meals. In addition, Convoy of Hope is consistently among the first to respond to disasters throughout the world.  Consequently, Convoy of Hope is a model for other emergency response agencies to emulate. They are highly regarded for their scalable distribution model, Disaster Response teams, six international warehouses, and Mobile Command Center.
