Best Day Ever Events

Just the other day while at an organizational convention at dinner, we were relaying memorable vacation’s best day ever events. I took my turn in talking about my experiences. And I was encouraged to write about them.  So here it goes!

Best Day Ever Events

My first best day ever events, was vacationing with my family and my parents at Lake Balaton, Hungary (a number of years ago).  Fortunately, my parents were able to come along to visit their homeland after 44 years of immigrating to the US after the end of World War II.  It was an amazing experience to visit Hungary’s equivalent to the US Army’s West Point and see a picture of the faculty, which included my grandfather. It was great having my parents show us the places where they lived (as you can guess, my mother was an Army Brat). And hearing of their stories and adventures of growing up in Hungary.

Best Day Ever Events-Beach

One of the most memorable best day ever events involved my son who was turning 7 years old at the time.  We were staying at my mom’s childhood best friend’s (Chari) small chalet within walking distance of Lake Balaton (the largest natural lake in Central Europe).

As we were walking to the beach, all of a sudden my son takes off running. As you can imagine it surprised me and had me wondering what was going on.  Then I saw where he was heading to. Mind you this is a popular vacation spot for European vacationers’ especially German and Scandinavian tourists.  As you can guess, he was headed to a couple of young ladies in their birthday suits!  I never ran so fast in my life and managed to snare my son before he could get too close to satisfying his curiosity!

Best Day Ever Day Events-Wine Barrel

This next experience of the best day ever events occurred on that same trip to the lake. My dad and I saw a huge barrel being unloaded from a flatbed truck. That piqued our curiosity. On the way back from the lake, we passed that same huge barrel.

To our surprise, a winery had cut out the top cover of the barrel creating a counter space.  And out of that barrel, the winery was selling their wine.  The only hitch was that you had to have your own bottle to buy the wine.  Needless to say, we brought back a 1.5-liter soda bottle and filled it with the red wine that they were selling at an amazingly low price. From that day until we left, the trips to the lake, should we say, were even more enjoyable than my dad and I had imagined!

Best Day Ever Events-Museum

On the same trip, I took the kids to visit Hungary’s national museum of art.  As we were going thru the exhibit, my mom’s childhood friend, Chari, was a bit annoyed by how loud my children were in the museum.  In fact, she made a comment about how Hungarian kids were respectful in public places.

Shortly afterward, we saw two Hungarian kids cross over the roped barrier and climb on the bronze sculpture.  With seconds, the curator hustled over to the kids and escorted them and their parents out of the building.  I couldn’t resist. I made a comment to Chari that my kids may be loud but they know to respect others’ possessions. They knew the consequences from Dad; what would they be if they did something like those kids on the sculpture? This made it the Best Day Events even more memorable as a Dad!

In Summary

No doubt this was a once-in-a-lifetime vacation making it the best day ever events to cherish. It will forever be ingrained in my mind. Hope your travel adventures lead to happy, memorable recollections!
